NANCHANG - A total of 16 people have been confirmed dead after rain-triggered mudslides and landslides struck Suichuan county in East China's Jiangxi province, local authorities said Thursday.

Days of torrential rain caused a series of geological disasters in the county. As of Wednesday afternoon, over 18,000 residents of the county had been evacuated.
