Hong Kong delegation triumphs at international innovation festival

HONG KONG – Hong Kong's research and development teams excelled at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF) 2026, securing the top prize, eight special awards, 22 gold medals, and 13 silver medals, the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said on Monday.

SVIIF is a premier global platform fostering innovation. This year's festival brought together over 500 inventors from more than 30 countries and regions. Among the contenders, Hong Kong-based team Amonova Limited took home the prestigious grand prize with its distributed air-to-fertilizer technology solution.

A number of local universities also delivered standout performances by winning several key special awards. Notable inventions included "RoMetric: Intelligent Hand Function ROM Assessment System" developed by the Education University of Hong Kong, "GaitGPT: Evidence-Grounded AI for Bidirectional Clinical Gait Translation" by Lingnan University, as well as Hong Kong Baptist University's "AuraMist -- Water Misting System for Enhancing Bathing Experience for Wheelchair Users" and "Development of Fe65-Engineered Exosome-Corynoxine B Nasal Spray for Alzheimer's Disease Therapy."

Sun Dong, secretary for innovation, technology and industry of the HKSAR government, extended his congratulations to the delegation, saying the achievements reflected Hong Kong's robust scientific research capabilities and the fruitful outcomes of the HKSAR government's efforts in promoting industry-academia-research collaboration.

Sun emphasized that the HKSAR government will continue investing resources to optimize the innovation and technology ecosystem, empowering more local inventions to excel globally.
