BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed with mixed performances on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.57 percent to 3,900.35 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.24 percent lower at 14,110.12 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at around 2.53 trillion yuan ($372.63 billion), down from 2.66 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Coal mining and processing, electronic chemicals, and communications equipment were among the top gainers, while education and automobile manufacturers were among the top losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.55 percent to close at 3,515.56 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.25 percent higher at 1,954.05 points.
