BEIJING - The Chinese mainland on Wednesday condemned the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' attempt to forcibly dissolve a pro-reunification party in Taiwan, denouncing the move as a maneuver to suppress political dissent and entrench a "green terror".

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to a media query about the DPP authorities' move to seek the dissolution of the Chinese Unification Promotion Party, an action that has drawn sharp criticism from various groups and individuals in Taiwan.

Advocating for reunification and opposing secessionist attempts are justified and legitimate, as they conform to the overall interests of the Chinese nation and the prevailing trend of history, said the spokesperson.

Noting that the DPP authorities' attempt is driven by an inherent secessionist agenda, he called on people of all walks of life in Taiwan to see through the DPP authorities' secessionist nature and stand together against its abuse of power and political manipulation.
