An off-duty Food and Environmental Hygiene Department inspector was killed while 19 others were injured after a minibus mounted the sidewalk and knocked down pedestrians in Kowloon City on Sunday.
The FEHD health inspector, 43, was certified dead at the Kwong Wah Hospital while the minibus driver, 48, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, police said.
The accident happened at around 5:48 pm along Argyle Street near the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts.
While the minibus was travelling towards Tsz Wan Shan, it reportedly went out of control, mounted the pavement, and knocked down the FEHD inspector, a 39-year-old man, and a 16-year-old girl, police said.
The inspector, who had multiple head and body injuries, was rushed unconscious to Kwong Wah Hospital, where he was certified dead at 7:23 pm, police added.
The two other injured pedestrians and the 16 minibus passengers, eight males and eight females aged 9 to 63, were also brought to Kwong Wah Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Local media reported three of the passengers having serious injuries.
The driver, who was also injured and taken to Kwong Wah Hospital, was later arrested and is being detained for further inquiries.
