HKSAR forum: Veteran diplomats share China’s diplomatic practices

Two seasoned Chinese diplomats on Thursday shared their insights on China’s diplomatic practices amid the evolving global landscape at a thematic seminar in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The seminar was hosted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) with the theme of “Navigating the Current Global Landscape: Insights into the Practice of China's Diplomacy”, drawing over 200 attendees.

Speaking at the event, Zhan Yongxin, chair of the China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation and a former Chinese ambassador to Israel, analyzed trends in Asia-Pacific economic cooperation and discussed key characteristics of today’s international environment.

Huang Ping, vice-president of the China-US People’s Friendship Association and a former Chinese consul general in New York, the United States, shared insights into people-to-people diplomacy between China and US, drawing on his decades of diplomatic experience.

After their speeches, the two diplomats attended a question-and-answer session with the audience.

The PolyU organized two China diplomacy thematic seminars last year, which respectively focused on China’s foreign policy in the new era, and the theory and practice of Chinese diplomacy.

The university said the events were well received and helped Hong Kong society better understand the country’s development and its integration into national development.
