JAKARTA – Three gold miners were killed and four others injured after being buried by a landslide at an illegal mining site in Indonesia's Aceh province, local authorities said.

The landslide occurred on Tuesday at a manually dug gold mining pit inside an oil palm plantation area in Aceh Jaya district.

Julian Zairi of the Aceh Jaya police said the victims had been conducting illegal mining activities at the site.

Authorities said the illegal mining activity had been carried out for about six days before the accident. Residents had previously been warned against mining in the area, and efforts are underway to stop the illegal operations.
