Mainland slams DPP's intel platform, vows countermeasures
By Li Shangyi

A Chinese mainland spokesman on Wednesday condemned the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan for establishing an intelligence collection platform targeting the mainland, saying the move escalates cross-Strait tensions and undermines cross-Strait relations.

Speaking at a regular news conference, Chen Binhua, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, strongly criticized the DPP authorities for using an online platform to solicit intelligence from the mainland, and said firm countermeasures would be taken.

Chen accused the DPP authorities of openly engaging in intelligence theft, infiltration and sabotage activities targeting the mainland.

"This fully exposes their entrenched 'Taiwan independence' stance and unyielding confrontational mindset," he said, adding that the mainland strongly condemns the matter and will take resolute countermeasures.

He was responding to the island's "security agency", which recently announced the establishment of a public contact platform encouraging people on the mainland to provide political, military, economic and social intelligence information.

Chen said that all Chinese citizens, political parties, people's organizations, enterprises, public institutions and other social organizations have a responsibility and obligation to safeguard national security.

He added that individuals who provide information to Taiwan's intelligence agencies, thereby committing a crime, will be held legally accountable by the relevant authorities in accordance with the law.
