China on Monday expressed deep concern over the latest surge in violence after Iran and Israel reportedly exchanged strikes over the weekend, calling on both sides to honor ceasefire commitments and resolve disputes through political and diplomatic channels.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a regular news briefing that the renewed fighting serves no one's interests.

"We hope that all parties concerned will honor their commitments to the ceasefire, maintain the momentum of negotiations, and remain committed to resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means, so as to achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire at the earliest possible date," Lin said.
