Indonesia's Mount Dukono volcano erupts, sneding 900-meter ash column

JAKARTA - Mount Dukono in Indonesia's North Maluku province erupted on Tuesday morning, sending a column of volcanic ash up to 900 meters above its peak, Indonesia's geological agency reported.

The eruption occurred at 06:48 am local time, with the ash plume observed at around 1,987 meters above sea level, drifting eastward with thick white-to-gray emissions.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 30 mm and a duration of 48.54 seconds, accompanied by a moderate explosion sound, according to the official report by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation.

Residents and visitors have been advised not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang crater within a 4-km radius.
