Hongkong Post announced today it will adjust its principal postage rates from April 13, citing the need to cope with rising operating costs and inflation since its last rate review in 2022.

A spokesperson said the adjustments reflect cumulative inflation up to January and remain mild, with more than 90 percent of local and surface mail rates increasing by no more than HK$0.2 ($0.026) and most airmail by no more than HK$0.5.

Under the new structure, postage for local letters weighing 30 grams or less will rise from HK$2.2 to HK$2.4. Airmail letters up to 20 grams sent to other places in the nation will increase from HK$3.7 to HK$3.9, while those to other destinations will rise from HK$4–5.5 to HK$4.2–5.8. Surface mail to nearby regions will move from HK$2.8 to HK$3, and to other places from HK$3.5–5.3 to HK$3.7–5.6.

Hongkong Post said declining traditional mail volumes and increasing competition from commercial couriers continue to challenge its operations. The department will focus on e‑commerce logistics and cost efficiency to sustain affordable, reliable services.
