Chinese shares close lower Friday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.81 percent to 4,095.45 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.65 percent lower at 14,280.78 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 2.4 trillion yuan (about $347.8 billion), down from 2.44 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

The chemical engineering sector led the gains, while shares related to the computing power leasing suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.22 percent to close at 3,310.28 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.44 percent lower at 1,730.78 points on Friday.
