Cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries does not target any third party and should not be subject to interference from any third party, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday.

He made the remarks at a news conference on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress.

"The resources of Latin America and the Caribbean belong to its people, the path of LAC countries should be chosen by their people, and the choice of friends is a decision for LAC countries alone," Wang said.

"China-LAC cooperation is about mutual help and support among Global South countries," he said, adding that China always respects Latin American people and is committed to equal treatment and mutual benefit with LAC countries.

China has never engaged in geopolitical calculations, never interfered in other countries' internal affairs, and never asked others to choose sides, he said.

Expressing confidence in the future of China–LAC relations, Wang added that regardless of how the international situation evolves, China stands ready to work with LAC countries to steadily advance the building of a China–LAC community with a shared future.
