China's top political advisory body starts annual session

BEIJING – The fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body, commenced on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. 

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a speech at the opening meeting.

Wang noted that the year 2025 marked the successful conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2020-25), during which China's economic strength, technological capabilities, defense power, and overall national strength reached new heights, taking solid steps forward on the path of Chinese-style modernization.

The CPPCC National Committee has played a crucial role as a specialized consultative body, focusing on providing suggestions and strategies for the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) over the past year, he said.

Over the past year, the CPPCC organized 98 consultative and deliberative activities. It received 5,992 proposals, of which 5,061 were filed, achieving a response rate of 99.9 percent. Additionally, 75,648 information submissions were received, with 17,223 adopted, and 2,118 issues of information publications were compiled and reported, according to him.
