BEIJING - All suspects from a major telecom fraud den in Myawaddy of Myanmar have been repatriated to China, with over 630 relevant buildings in the area demolished, according to China's Ministry of Public Security on Monday.

This means that the joint cleanup operation by Chinese, Myanmar and Thai law enforcement agencies in the area has achieved phased results, the ministry said.

In early 2025, China, Myanmar and Thailand established a ministerial-level coordination mechanism for jointly combating telecom and online fraud, having carried out multiple rounds of coordinated enforcement actions ever since.

The ministry said that since the beginning of this year, 10 joint repatriation operations have been carried out to escort more than 1,500 criminal suspects back to China.

The Myawaddy region of Myanmar has long harbored numerous gambling and fraud syndicates, which have engaged in rampant telecom and online fraud and other criminal activities, posing serious harm.

Chinese police will continue to deepen international cooperation, advance joint operations, dismantle criminal hubs, and intensify the pursuit of other suspects, the ministry added.
