HONG KONG – The Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions have announced enhancements to facilitation measures to ensure faster and more convenient immigration clearance services for eligible Hong Kong residents and Macao residents.

With effect from Monday, the eligibility age for mutual use of automated immigration clearance services will be adjusted, and the requirements for using self-service kiosks to enroll for such services will be relaxed.

The minimum age of permanent residents of the two SARs for using the automated immigration clearance channels of the other side – the e-channels in Hong Kong and the traditional two-gate automated channels in Macao – will be lowered from 11 to seven, the Immigration Department of Hong Kong said in a statement on Friday.

To align with the measures, the use of the "joint inspection automated channels" and "iris recognition channels" in Macao will be extended to Hong Kong permanent residents aged seven to 10, the public security authorities of the Macao SAR announced.

Eligible Hong Kong and Macao non-permanent residents aged 18 or above will also be able to enroll at the local self-service kiosks and then use the automated immigration clearance channels on the other side for entry and exit within about three hours.
