More than a half of Hong Kong pupils who applied for discretionary places in government and aided primary schools will be offered a place in the schools, the city’s education authorities announced on Friday, with the results set to be announced on Monday.

“There are 37,581 children applying for discretionary places in government and aided primary schools this year, of whom 19,656 will be offered a place in these schools,” a spokesperson for the Education Bureau said in a statement on Friday.

Among them, total 9,477 children are applicants with siblings studying or with parents working in the schools that they have applied to, whereas the remaining 10,179 have been selected according to a points system, according to the spokesperson.

Parents who have activated their Primary One Admission e-platform (ePOA) account can check the results via the ePOA from 10 am on Monday or bring the parent's copy of the paper application form to check the application results from 9 am to 5 pm to the school to which they have applied, added the spokesperson.

Parents whose children have been offered a discretionary place should register their children next Wednesday or Thursday during school hours according to the arrangements of individual schools.

Parents who cannot register their children on time have been reminded of notifying the person-in-charge of the schools in advance to make alternative arrangements. If they fail to do so, they will be deemed to have given up their discretionary place, said the EDB spokesperson.

Under the Primary One Admission System, each government or aided primary school may make use of about 50 percent of its total Primary One places as discretionary places, while the remaining approximately 50 percent of the total places will be reserved for central allocation at a later stage.

For applications for participation in Primary One Admission 2026 made after Jan 25, parents are required to approach the EDB’s School Places Allocation Section to complete the necessary procedures, the spokesperson said, adding that the bureau will separately arrange a primary one place for the applicant children in June 2026.
