Hong Kong airport passenger traffic soars 15.1% in first 10 months

The Hong Kong International Airport handled over 50 million passengers in the first 10 months of 2025, marking a 15.1 percent surge compared to the same period last year, according to the Airport Authority Hong Kong.  

The Airport Authority said in a statement that flight movements during at the HKIA also rose to 325,330, an increase of 8.9 percent year-on-year, during the period while cargo volume went up by 2.3 percent year-on-year to over 4.12 million tonnes.

In October, the number of passengers handled by HKIA soared 18 percent year-on-year to 5.37 million while flight movements rose 9.1 percent year-on-tear to 34,465.

Robust growth was recorded in transfer and transit passengers with a 50.2 percent year-on-year increase to 1.50 million passengers.

Traffic to and from Southeast Asia, Chinese mainland and Taiwan region saw the most significant growth last month, the Airport Authority said.

It said cargo throughput grew 2.9 percent year-on-year to 455,000 tonnes, with export traffic remaining the main driver of the growth as it rose 1.4 percent year-on-year to 287,000 tonnes.

Cargo traffic to and from Europe, Middle East and Southeast Asia increased most significantly in October, the Airport Authority added.

On a 12-month rolling basis, passenger volume increased by 15.5 percent year-on-year to 59.6 million while flight movements rose by 9.4 percent to 389,955. Cargo throughput recorded a 3.3 percent year-on-year increase to 5.03 million tonnes.
