HONG KONG – The new passenger departure facilities at Terminal 2 of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will commence operations on May 27, according to Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK).
AAHK Chairman Fred Lam Tin-fuk and Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan made the announcement during the Chinese New Year celebrations at the airport on Tuesday.
Launching the Terminal 2 departure facilities – commissioned in phases to align with passenger traffic demand – in May will enable the airport to meet the anticipated surge in passengers during the summer peak season, the authorities said.
Designed to be a trendy and vibrant space for leisure travellers, the terminal will serve 15 airlines operating short-haul and regional routes, the AAHK said in a statement, adding that the airlines will move to Terminal 2 in phases.

“Seamlessly connected to the Airport Express platform and Terminal 1, the expanded Terminal 2 will offer a new generation of smart check-in facilities,” reads the statement.
The Coach Hall of Terminal 2 opened on Sept 23 as part of the first phase of the new terminal’s opening, offering parking for buses, ticketing counters for cross-boundary transport connecting with more than 110 destinations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

“AAHK has been working closely with relevant government departments, airlines, passenger handling agents and other stakeholders to prepare for the commissioning of Terminal 2’s departure facilities, with a robust and comprehensive program of familiarization activities, training sessions, drills, and exercises already underway,” the statement added.
