The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region logged more than 4.6 million tourist arrivals in October, a 12 percent increase compared to the same month last year, data from the Hong Kong Tourism Board showed on Monday.

The number of visitors from the Chinese mainland reached 3.45 million, increasing 10 percent year-on-year, the HKTB said in a statement.

During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays from Oct 1 to 8, immigration data showed that 1.29 million visitors from the mainland flocked to the city, with crowds drawn to iconic tourist hotspots, as well as cultural attractions.

Cumulatively, the number of tourists who visited Hong Kong from January to October increased 12 percent year-on-year to 41 million, the HKTB said.

These included about 31.44 million tourists from the mainland, up 11 percent compared to the same period last year. The number of non-mainland visitors also rose 16 percent year-on-year to 9.62 million.

The HKTB said growth was particularly prominent in the number of visitors from Taiwan region, Australia and the Middle East markets.
