
Vivian Kong Man-wai, who won Hong Kong's third-ever Olympic gold medal in the women's individual epee fencing event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has registered to run in the 2025 Legislative Council election, seeking a seat in the tourism functional constituency.
Speaking to the media, she announced that she has applied to renounce her Canadian passport, and her motivation for running is to serve Hong Kong and give back to society.
Kong said that after retiring from fencing, she has stepped out of her comfort zone and believes the spirit of sports applies to all sectors. The former Olympian said she aims to introduce Hong Kong to the world.
Marco Ma Yat-chiu, vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Cultural, Sports and Tourism Association, has also officially registered to contest the tourism sector seat. The election is scheduled on Dec 7.
