CSL Roundup: Title contenders stumble as Shandong stuns Shanghai Port

BEIJING - The Chinese Super League on Sunday witnessed three title contenders winless in the 28th round, with league leader Shanghai Port beaten by Shandong Taishan, while Chengdu Rongcheng and Shanghai Shenhua were held to draws.

Hosting Shanghai Port, Shandong Taishan rallied from a goal down to win 3-1. The visitors took an early lead in the eighth minute when Liu Ruofan set up Li Xinxiao to score.

Shandong responded as Georgian forward Valeri Qazaishvili equalized in the 40th minute. Zeca then set up Liu Yang to put Taishan ahead in the 61st, before Qazaishvili struck again with a 77th-minute volley.

Elsewhere, Chengdu Rongcheng missed the chance to reclaim top spot after a 2-2 draw away to Qingdao West Coast. The visitors found a late equalizer but were left to rue missed chances.

Shanghai Shenhua also failed to capitalize, drawing 2-2 with Dalian Yingbo to remain two points behind the leaders.

After 28 rounds, Shanghai Port leads with 60 points, one ahead of Chengdu Rongcheng and two clear of Shanghai Shenhua, leaving the title race wide open into the final stretch.

In other fixtures, Yunnan Yukun won 4-1 away to Meizhou Hakka, Shenzhen Peng City edged Wuhan Three Towns 2-1, Tianjin Jinmen Tiger and Changchun Yatai drew 2-2, Henan FC was held 2-2 by Zhejiang FC, and Beijing Guoan lost 4-2 at home to Qingdao Hainiu.
