HONG KONG - A spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Tuesday expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to a so-called trafficking in persons report issued by the US Department of State.

The spokesperson pointed out that Hong Kong has achieved notable results in combating trafficking in persons, supported by a comprehensive and effective protection system. Through a sound legal framework, rigorous enforcement actions, and robust safeguard measures, the HKSAR government has taken firm steps to crack down on trafficking activities. These practical efforts have gained broad recognition from the international community.

The spokesperson stressed that the so-called report lacked credibility and merely served as a tool for political manipulation. Year after year, the United States fabricated its so-called report on trafficking in persons while turning a blind eye to its own serious human trafficking problems. Its accusations against other countries fully exposed its hypocritical double standards.

The so-called report also used the issue of trafficking in persons as a pretext to smear the national security law in Hong Kong and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance. Such claims were factually groundless and filled with bias, amounting to a smear campaign against Hong Kong's rule of law and human rights conditions.

The spokesperson reiterated that Hong Kong is on a steady course from stability to prosperity, and its development prospects must not be undermined. The office urged the US side to immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs.
