The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded 5.2 million passengers in July, an increase of 9.7 percent from the same period last year, according to the Airport Authority Hong Kong.

The airport also handled 33,670 flight movements, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.3 percent, while total cargo throughput went up 3.9 percent year-on-year to 430,000 tonnes, the AAHK said in a statement on Thursday.

While the number of transit passengers continued to grow from a low base, overall passenger traffic growth softened due to adverse weather last month and a decline in travel demand to Japan, the AAHK added.

The AAHK said cargo throughput also recorded a year-on-year increase of 2.2 percent to 2.83 million tonnes during the same period.
