HONG KONG - AFC Champions League winner Al-Ahli defeated Al-Qadsiah 5-1 on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Saudi Cup, setting up an exciting final showdown against Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr.
Al-Qadsiah took an early lead just eight minutes into the match with a header from Gaston Alvarez. However, Franck Kessie quickly equalized four minutes later, before Ivan Toney put Al-Ahli ahead 2-1 with a penalty kick in the 28th minute.
Enzo Millot added a third goal, and Kessie scored again to give Al-Ahli a commanding 4-1 lead at halftime. In the 61st minute, former Real Madrid star Nacho Fernandez, who is the captain of Al-Qadsiah, unfortunately scored an own goal.
Al-Qadsiah had to battle with just 10 men for most of the game after forward Christopher Baah was sent off in the 42nd minute.
The absence of Ronaldo significantly affected attendance, with at least 25,000 fewer fans than the 30,000 who attended Al-Nassr's victory over Al-Ittihad on Tuesday. Organizers initially reported an attendance of 20,156, later revising it to 16,253.
