Weng Hongyang, Wang Zhiyi storm into quarterfinals at BWF China Masters

SHENZHEN – Weng Hongyang and Wang Zhiyi advanced to the men's and women's singles quarterfinals respectively at the 2026 BWF China Masters on Thursday.

Weng battled past Singapore's Loh Kean Yew 21-18, 11-21, 21-17 in a three-game thriller, but compatriot Lu Guangzu fell to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-17, 21-12.

Women's singles second seed Wang Zhiyi beat Malaysia's Karupathevan Letshanaa 21-10, 21-8 in just 31 minutes to secure her quarterfinal spot. Young Chinese shuttler Han Qianxi was eliminated in the round of 16, losing to top seed An Se-young of South Korea in straight games.

In mixed doubles, top seeds Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping rallied from a game down to defeat Thailand's Pakkapon Teeraratsakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai 15-21, 23-21, 21-17.

Young Chinese pairs Zhu Yijun/Li Qian and Gao Jiaxuan/Wu Mengying also progressed to the last eight by defeating their respective opponents.

Also on Thursday, Chinese men's doubles favorites He Jiting/Ren Xiangyu and women's doubles stars Jia Yifan/Zhang Shuxian booked their quarterfinal berths with straight-game victories.
