JEDDAH - Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan set a new record in snooker history on Friday, becoming the first player to make two 147s in a single match on the same day, during the semifinal of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters 2025 in Jeddah.
O'Sullivan's previous 147 came at the 2018 English Open. In Friday's match, he defeated Chris Wakelin 6-3, producing a 147 in the opening frame. After the match was tied 3-3, O'Sullivan made another 147 in the seventh frame, becoming the first player ever to achieve two maximum breaks within just over two hours in a single match on the same day.
With this performance, O'Sullivan extended his record for the most officially recognized maximum breaks in professional competition to 17. At 49 years and 253 days old, he also becomes the oldest player ever to score an official maximum.
In April this year, Welsh player Jackson Page became the first player in history to make two 147s in the same match, during the World Snooker Championship qualifiers. However, Page's two maximums occurred on two different days of the match.
