HONG KONG - The National Security Law in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region serves as a key stabilizing force in safeguarding national security by providing solid institutional safeguards to promote good governance in the city, said a spokesperson for the HKSAR government on Tuesday, which marks the sixth anniversary of the law's promulgation.
The enactment of the law at the state level six years ago was a "watershed moment" in Hong Kong's transition from chaos to order, said the spokesperson.
The HKSAR has been faithfully fulfilling its constitutional responsibility to safeguard national security, including completing legislation under Article 23 of the Basic Law by enacting the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, the spokesperson noted.
Together with other relevant legislative amendments and the enactment of subsidiary legislation, these efforts improved the comprehensive and effective legal system and enforcement mechanisms for safeguarding national security, paving the way for achieving prosperity amid global volatility, the spokesperson said.
