BAGHDAD - An explosive-laden drone on Wednesday evening struck the US-run oil field in northern Iraq's semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan, local authorities said.

The attack occurred at 7:10 pm local time (1610 GMT) when the drone hit an oil field operated by a US firm in the Baadre area, southeast of the city of Duhok, for the second time on Wednesday, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kurdistan Regional Government said in a statement.

The attack caused material damage but no casualties, it said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The regional government strongly condemned the acts, which it said threatened the infrastructure of the energy sector and endangered the lives of citizens in the area. It urged the Iraqi federal government to take action to stop these attacks.

Earlier this morning, two drones struck an oil field operated by the Norwegian DNO oil company in the Faysh Khabur area, a third drone hit another DNO-operated oil field in the Tawke area, and a fourth one hit an oil field run by a US oil company in the Baadre area.

Iraq has witnessed a surge in drone attacks in recent weeks. The Kurdish regional government often blames pro-Iranian militias, a claim denied by the federal government in Baghdad.
