Premier Li Qiang said on July 9 that China and Egypt, as important countries of the Global South, should further strengthen strategic coordination to safeguard their common interests.
He was in Cairo for a two-day official visit to Egypt. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly and senior government officials welcomed Li at Cairo International Airport and held a welcoming ceremony in his honor.
In a meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit in Egypt on July 9, Premier Li said that China is willing to strengthen coordination and communication with the Arab countries on such platforms as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the WTO, and the G20, making a common voice, and promoting the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.
On July 8, Li also met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Guterres said he appreciates China’s role as a longtime advocate of multilateralism and a staunch supporter of the UN.
