SEOUL - Lee Jae-myung, presidential candidate of the Republic of Korea (ROK)'s majority liberal Democratic Party, vowed on Monday to restore communication channels with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Lee announced his foreign security policy, saying that he would push for the restoration of inter-Korean communication channels, including military hotlines, mutually stop acts causing tensions, and manage situations in a stable manner.

The presidential frontrunner pledged to promote dialogue, exchange and cooperation with the DPRK while pursuing the Korean Peninsula where the two Koreas can coexist with the de-escalated tensions and denuclearized peace.
The presidential by-election, caused by the removal of former conservative President Yoon Suk-yeol from office over his botched martial law bid, is scheduled for June 3.
Flower Research survey showed Monday that Lee led a poll for the snap presidential election on June 3.
Lee won a support rate of 48.9 percent, taking a big lead over Kim Moon-soo, presidential candidate of the second-biggest conservative People Power Party who garnered 30.8 percent of support.
The civil rights lawyer-turned-politician maintained his position as presidential frontrunner in the election.

Lee lost the 2022 presidential election to Yoon by the country's narrowest margin of 0.73 percentage points.
Lee Jun-seok of the minor conservative New Reform Party took 9.6 percent of support.
The Democratic Party won an approval score of 49.2 percent, while 31.1 percent supported the People Power Party, the survey showed.
The result was based on a poll of 2,004 voters conducted between Friday and Saturday. It had a plus and minus 2.2 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.
