BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.05 percent to 3,346.84 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.41 percent lower at 10,091.16 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.01 trillion yuan ($140.6 billion), down from 1.16 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to printing and packaging, paper-making, and textile equipment led the gains, while those in the sectors of auto manufacturing, liquor-making, and biopharmaceuticals were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.8 percent to close at 2,005.26 points.
