Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.13 percent to 3,316.11 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.84 percent higher at 10,082.34 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.3 trillion yuan (roughly $180.5 billion), up from 1.17 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to the ceramic and textile machinery industries led the gains, while those linked to the wine-making and hotel and tourism sectors were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.97 percent to close at 1,986.41 points on Tuesday.
