HONG KONG – The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Hong Kong stood at 3 percent for the period between July and September, unchanged from the June-to-August figure, the Census and Statistics Department announced on Friday.
The underemployment rate also remained unchanged, at 1.2 percent, data published by the department showed.

Total employment increased by around 1,700 to 3,710,200, while the labor force remained about the same at 3,830,100.
The number of unemployed people decreased by around 2,400 to 119,900. Meanwhile, the number of underemployed people also dropped by around 1,500 to 46,000.
Compared with the preceding three-month period, the unemployment rates of various sectors showed diverse movements in the July-September period, yet the changes were not large in general.

Looking ahead, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han said, “The overall labor market should remain tight in the near term alongside the sustained economic growth, though the employment situation may vary across sectors depending on their business performances."
