SEOUL/MOSCOW – The Democratic People's Republic of Korea's top leader Kim Jong-un on Friday met visiting Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council Sergei Shoigu, according to the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
During the talks, they had a wide exchange of views on the issues of steadily deepening the strategic dialogue between the two countries and strengthening cooperation to defend the mutual security interests and on the regional and international situation, and reached a consensus on the issues discussed, the KCNA reported on Saturday.
Kim, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, expressed his appreciation for the development of bilateral ties in all fields including politics, economy and culture, and said that the DPRK government would further expand cooperation and collaboration with Russia in the spirit of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the future, it added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a state visit to the DPRK in June and signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with the DPRK. Putin called it a "breakthrough document" that set goals for strengthening long-term ties between the two countries in various fields.
The Russian Federation Security Council said in a statement that there was a "detailed exchange of views" with DPRK colleagues on a wide range of bilateral and international issues as part of the ongoing strategic dialogue between the two countries.

The meetings, held in "an exceptionally trusting, friendly atmosphere", were expected to "make an important contribution" to implementing the bilateral partnership agreement signed earlier this year by leaders of both countries, said the council.
