BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.82 percent to 2,721.8 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.39 percent higher at 8,105.38 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 499.56 billion yuan (about $70.18 billion), down from 527.65 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to automobiles and home appliances led the gains, while power generation and coal sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.19 percent to close at 1,558.33 points Wednesday.
