MOSCOW — Two Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers carried out a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan on Tuesday, the Russian defense ministry said in a statement.
The bombers were accompanied by Su-35S and Su-30SM fighter jets during the flight, which lasted more than 10 hours, the defense ministry said.
"The flight was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for using airspace," it added.

Russia will take adequate measures if Japan moves away from being a non-nuclear weapons state, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said last week.
He said Tokyo should understand that any threats to Russia's Far Eastern borders will be met with a response from Moscow aimed at strengthening security.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said earlier that Japan's remilitarization efforts could destabilize the security of the Asia-Pacific region.
