John Lee vows to seize opportunities in nation’s new round of reform

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu vowed to firmly grasp the great opportunities from the country’s new round of reform, in a bid to further shore up its unique strengths and better integrate into the nation’s development.

He made the pledge after the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China adopted a resolution on further deepening reform to advance Chinese modernization at its third plenary session, which concluded on Thursday.

Lee also encouraged different sectors of the Hong Kong communities to earnestly study the essence of the session, make good advantage of the “patriots administering Hong Kong” principle, to make greater contributions to the nation’s modernization

Lee highlighted the meeting’s significance, saying it was convened at a crucial stage of promoting comprehensive modernization with Chinese characteristics and achieving the great rejuvenation of the nation.

Lee said that the resolution demonstrated that the country has continuously expanded the breadth and depth of its comprehensive reforms, and rapidly improved its governance capacity and system.

To facilitate the process, Hong Kong should keep leveraging its unique position as a city backed by the motherland and connected to the world, Lee said.

Lee also encouraged different sectors of the Hong Kong communities to earnestly study the essence of the session, make good advantage of the “patriots administering Hong Kong” principle, to make greater contributions to the nation’s modernization.

In a social media post published on Thursday, Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki said the resolution has demonstrated the country’s firm commitment to further opening-up.

To better serve the nation’s development needs, Hong Kong will give full play to foster new productive forces and boost high-quality development, Chan said.
