Hong Kong’s Secretary for Justice Paul Lam and Saudi Arabia’s Vice-Minister of Justice Dr Najem bin Abdullah al-Zaid on Monday discussed various areas of legal cooperation between the two places, in Riyadh.
The meeting followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government’s Department of Justice and the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on April 22. The MoU strengthens cooperation between the two places on issues relating to dispute avoidance and resolution.

The secretary for justice, who is leading a Hong Kong delegation to Riyadh, also visited a not-for-profit commercial arbitration organization, the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), as they concluded their visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday.
The Hong Kong delegation held a meeting with the SCCA’s board of directors.
The SCCA was established by the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia in 2014 to administer alternative dispute resolution procedures in commercial disputes.

This meeting followed an international legal and dispute resolution event in March which was hosted in Riyadh by the SCAA and attended by a Department of Justice-led delegation.
The Hong Kong delegation comprising representatives from the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, Invest Hong Kong and related sectors departed for Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, later in the day.
