Knife-wielding man arrested, no one injured at Australian shopping center

SYDNEY - A man has been arrested in the Australian state of Victoria after he threatened people with a knife at a shopping center on Friday.

With assistance from the public, the 30-year-old offender was swiftly arrested by the police and is currently assisting with further inquiries

Victoria Police confirmed in a statement that the incident occurred in Taylors Lakes, a suburb in Melbourne's northwest, leaving no one physically injured.

With a knife stolen from a grocery store, the man assaulted and threatened a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman inside the shopping center on Melton Highway at about 12:50 p.m. local time.

With assistance from the public, the 30-year-old offender was swiftly arrested by the police and is currently assisting with further inquiries.

"Police will be doing proactive patrols today and tomorrow for community reassurance," said the Victoria Police, while calling on anyone who witnessed the incident to provide information.
