HONG KONG – The Georgian National Dance Company Sukhishvili is returning to Hong Kong’s stage with its captivating choreography and exotic folk music, nine years after the acclaimed group last performed in the city.
Upon the invitation of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Georgian dance company will stage performances at the Sha Tin Town Hall for two consecutive days from May 31 to June 1.
Local audiences will be able to catch a glimpse of its distinctive production which superbly combines traditional Georgian dancing and modern dance elements, with atmospheric stage lighting effects, stunning costumes, and live folk music.
A dance workshop will also be curated at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, in which the group's chief choreographer, Iliko Sukhishvili Jr, and dancers will teach participants the basic movements of Georgian folk dancing.
Founded in 1945 by renowned ballet masters Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili, the Georgian National Dance Company Sukhishvili is the first professional national dance company in its country. It has committed to preserving the traditions of Georgian folk dance, and is highly appreciated by audiences worldwide.
The group has performed in nearly 100 countries and regions, and staged over 10,000 shows. Its last performance in Hong Kong was in 2015.
