HONG KONG – The Transport and Logistics Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has refuted an overseas media report that said a major expansion project of the Hong Kong International Airport has been delayed, terming the allegation “groundless”.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong is taking forward the three-runway system, or 3RS, project at full steam according to schedule, the Transport and Logistics Bureau said in a statement on late on Friday.

The statement came after Bloomberg published a report on Friday claiming that the airport's second passenger concourse may not be ready until 2026.

Responding to media inquiries regarding the report, the bureau made it clear that such allegations are groundless.

“It is a clear target of AAHK to complete all the building and infrastructure works of the 3RS and put all three runways into operation within 2024,” said a spokesman for the bureau.

There is absolutely no question of delay of the 3RS project, added the spokesman.

“The AAHK will open relevant passenger facilities progressively in the light of passenger traffic demand,” reads the statement.
