Like in the past two decades, a Hong Kong grassroots calligrapher has set up his little stall amid the hustle and bustle of the city before the Chinese New Year, to put his expertise to good use in writing Spring Festival couplets for local neighborhoods.

Chan, who is in his 80s, has kept his artistic tradition alive, making handwritten festival decorations to adorn many homes and earning him numerous accolades for his craft.

Chan used to share his calligraphy works in the narrow alleys of Wan Chai at the end of every year. But this time around, he has opened his stall somewhere near Sunbeam Theatre in North Point.

China Daily’s Andy Chong took the photos on Monday.
