Members of Hong Kong’s largest political party, Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), rallied outside the German Consulate General in Admiralty on Thursday, protesting against the German government’s interference in Hong Kong affairs.

The rally came after Germany gave a so-called award to a Hong Kong lawyer who has been charged with violating the National Security Law. The French and German foreign ministries on Tuesday named barrister Chow Hang-tung as one of the winners of the Franco-German Prize for Human Rights and the Rule of Law.

Chow has been charged with one count of incitement of subversion, and the case is pending trial. The central and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region governments have expressed strong disapproval and firm rejection of the two European countries’ move.
