Man dies, dozens evacuated after chemical explosion at Aussie factory

SYDNEY - A chemical explosion occurred at a factory in the Australian state of Victoria on Thursday, which resulted in one death and the evacuation of at least 30 people.

According to a statement by Victoria Police, emergency services were called to an industrial building on Swann Drive in Derrimut - a suburb in Melbourne's west - at about 9:45 am local time, following reports of a chemical explosion.

After fire crews brought the blaze sparked by the explosion under control, a 44-year-old man was found dead inside the building.

Victoria Police noted that no one else was injured in the incident.
