HONG KONG - Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung lauded on Tuesday Hong Kong's athletes for their remarkable performances and winning a total of 12 medals at the World University Games.
The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games (World University Games) concluded Tuesday with the territory garnering four gold medals, one silver medal, and seven bronze medals, according to a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government statement.
The gold medalists included Hui Tak-yan for Wushu (Men’s Taijijian); Kaylin Hsieh for Fencing (Women's Épée Individual); Cheung Ka-long for Fencing (Men’s Foil Individual); and Cheung, Ryan Choi, Lawrence Ng, and Aaron Lee for Fencing (Men’s Foil Team)
"Young Hong Kong athletes showcased their strong spirit and gave full play to their strengths, achieving Hong Kong's best ever result at the World University Games. We are thrilled by their exemplary performances, which have won glory for Hong Kong,” Yeung was quoted as saying in the statement.

The Hong Kong, China Delegation, comprising over 140 student athletes, is Hong Kong's largest ever and took part in 11 sports at the Games.The gold medalists included Hui Tak-yan for Wushu (Men’s Taijijian); Kaylin Hsieh for Fencing (Women's Épée Individual); Cheung Ka-long for Fencing (Men’s Foil Individual); and Cheung, Ryan Choi, Lawrence Ng, and Aaron Lee for Fencing (Men’s Foil Team).

Lau Chi-lung took a silver medal in Wushu (Men’s Nanquan) while the bronze medalists included Hui for Wushu (Men’s Taijiquan); Lydia Sham for Wushu (Women’s Qiangshu); Doo Hoi-kem, Minnie Soo, Lam Yee-lok, Karen Lee and Ng Wing-lam for Table Tennis (Women’s Team); Ho Kwan-kit and Doo Hoi-kem for Table Tennis (Mixed Doubles); Coleman Wong and Cody Wong for Tennis (Mixed Doubles); Ryan Choi for Fencing (Men's Foil Individual); and Ko Shing-hei for Badminton (Men's Singles).
“Having high hopes for these young athletes, I believe many of them will strive to continue the legacy of Hong Kong's elite athletes and make Hong Kong people proud," Yeung said.
