THE HAGUE - Festivities in several Dutch cities after Morocco's victory over Spain at the World Cup in Qatar turned into chaotic scenes on late Tuesday night, resulting in dozens of arrests by the police.

The Moroccan soccer team beat Spain 3-0 on penalties on Tuesday and qualified for the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup.

The large Moroccan community in the Netherlands celebrated this win exuberantly, but the mood turned when police, emergency workers and public transport were pelted with heavy fireworks.

Things quickly ran out of hand in cities such as the Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam, and dozens were arrested amid the chaos, according to the police.
