BEIJING - China hopes to work with Britain to push forward bilateral relations on the right track on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a daily news briefing after Rishi Sunak, Britain's former chancellor of the exchequer, won the ruling Conservative Party's leadership contest to replace Liz Truss as British prime minister.
"China's position on developing China-British relations is consistent and clear," Wang said, noting that to maintain and develop bilateral relations is the common responsibility of both China and Britain and serves the common interests of the two peoples.
