An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 jolted Hong Kong in the early hours of Monday, according to an initial analysis from the Hong Kong Observatory.
The earthquake, occurring at 2:29 am on Monday near the coast of Southeastern China, lasted for a few seconds. The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 92 kilometers east-northeast of Hong Kong, the HKO said in a bulletin posted on its website.
The Observatory received over 8,000 locally felt reports of minor shaking.
Initial estimate gave a local intensity of IV (four) on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale. At that intensity, hanging objects swing and windows, dishes and doors rattle.
