The Li Ka Shing Foundation announces on a Facebook post a donation of HK$30 million in Hong Kong's anti-epidemic efforts.
HONG KONG - The Li Ka Shing Foundation announced on Saturday that it will make an initial donation of HK$30 million ($3.85 million) to support private hospitals receiving non-COVID patients, in an effort to relieve the strained public-health system.
The foundation is a charitable organization founded by Hong Kong business tycoon Li Ka-shing.
Making the announcement in a social media post, the foundation expressed its appreciation of the front-line medical professionals and vowed to do its part and work together with the Hong Kong public to fight the COVID-19 outbreak
So far, three private hospitals are slated to participate: the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, the Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, and Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Centre. The foundation said more information will be released after the hospitals and the government have ironed out the details of the plan.

Making the announcement in a social media post, the foundation expressed its appreciation of the front-line medical professionals and vowed to do its part and work together with the Hong Kong public to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
The development came after support from across the Hong Kong community poured in on Friday, as leading companies in the city made commitments to donate money and medical supplies, and provide land, hotel rooms and other resources to help the government shore up its capacity for testing, quarantining, building makeshift hospitals, and spreading the message to garner more public support to join this collective battle against the pandemic.
